Boston at Toronto

Maple Leafs 2, Bruins 1

CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

TORONTO -- The Maple Leafs ended their slump by regaining their scoring touch on the power play.

Bryan McCabe and Darcy Tucker had goals in Toronto's 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Friday night.

McCabe also had an assist for the Maple Leafs, who netted both goals on the power play just one night after going 0-for-9 with the man advantage in a 4-1 loss at Boston.

"We've had a tough couple of weeks here. We needed a win here to get our confidence going," McCabe said. "We can have fun over Christmas now."

Toronto has struggled recently because of their power-play woes, losing five of seven while going 6-for-47 (13 percent) with an extra man. The Maple Leafs got off to a strong start this season because they are the NHL's third-highest scoring team in power-play chances.

"I kind of wished it was there last night, too," Toronto coach Pat Quinn said of the power-play goals.

McCabe, who leads the league with 28 power-play points, gave Toronto a 2-1 lead at 7:52 of the third period on a two-man advantage with a hard one-timer from in front. The veteran defenseman got down on one knee and pumped his fist, something that hasn't been seen much lately.

Sergei Samsonov scored for the Bruins, who have lost five of seven. Boston's Hannu Toivonen took the loss, but made several impressive stops and finished with 26 saves.

"That was a game that was up for grabs for either team," Toivonen said. "It's a tough loss. We have to learn not to take that many penalties."

Toronto's Ed Belfour made 25 saves for his 449th career victory.

The Leafs honored Belfour before the game for moving into sole possession of second place on the NHL's career wins list on Monday. They gave him a framed picture of himself that included the scorecard from his first game and his 448th victory. Fans gave him a standing ovation and chanted his name.

"I had to get the focus back," Belfour said. "I've been a part of some of those nights before and they are always emotional and special."

Samsonov scored on the power play with a one-timer from the circle, giving Boston a 1-0 lead at 4:21 of the second.

Tucker tied it about four minutes later with a one-timer from the side of the net.

The Bruins are 3-2-1 against the Maple Leafs this season. ... Toronto went 2-for-9 on the power play. ... Eric Lindros (wrist), Nik Antropov (knee) and Alex Steen (thumb) remained out of the Leafs lineup.
