CALGARY, Alberta -- Kristian Huselius was simply trying to put a shot on goal.
The Calgary forward did that and more -- with a lot of help from two Edmonton defensemen - to give the Flames a 6-5 victory over the Oilers on Saturday night.
After Calgary captain Jarome Iginla won a faceoff in the Edmonton zone, Huselius fired a shot that caromed off Oilers defensemen Marc-Andre Bergeron and Chris Pronger and bounced behind stunned goalie Jussi Markkanen with 1:15 left.
"It was a big draw by Iggy. I just turned around and had a great opportunity to take a shot and I just tried to get it on net," Huselius said. "I was lucky it went in, but if you shoot at the net, it's going to happen sometimes."
With the victory, the Northwest Division-leading Flames moved two points ahead of Edmonton and three in front of Vancouver.
Shean Donovan and Daymond Langkow each scored twice for Calgary, and Matthew Lombardi added his first of the season. Donovan, who also had an assist, has three goals and five points in two games after going 34 games without scoring.
Raffi Torres, Bergeron, Jarret Stoll, Ryan Smyth, and Ales Hemsky scored for Edmonton, and Pronger had three assists.
"It's not the easiest way to lose a game like that, but bad things happen when you aren't playing your best," Markkanen said. "We created a lot of chances, but other than that, we were bad in the critical areas and it cost us the game."
Edmonton tied it at 5 with 5:39 left when Hemsky wristed a shot through Miikka Kiprusoff's pads for the Oilers' fourth power-play goal of the night. The goal came with Andrew Ference in the penalty box for delay of game after he accidentally cleared the puck into the crowd. That penalty put Calgary down two men for 1:16.
"Anytime you score five goals, I don't care where you're playing, it should be enough to win a game by two or three," Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. "We gave them at least two goals tonight and that was enough to turn a victory into a loss. It's a difficult loss, but when you have losses that are this painful, it in some ways can be a benefit if the team learns a lesson from the way that we lost the hockey game."
