Selanne's two goals help Ducks to seventh straight home win

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Mighty Ducks are making even the difficult wins look easy.

Teemu Selanne had two goals and two assists as the Anaheim Mighty Ducks beat the Los Angeles Kings 6-2 on Tuesday for their seventh straight victory at home.

The Ducks trailed twice in the game and needed a four-goal burst in the final period to overcome another strong performance by Kings goalie Matheiu Garon.

Garon entered the game with back-to-back 1-0 shutouts as the Kings moved within two points of the final Western Conference playoff spot. A 26-save performance in the first two periods against Anaheim on Tuesday kept the game 2-2 until early in the third.

Breaking down the left wing during an Anaheim power play, Selanne moved the puck to Andy McDonald, gathered a pass back from McDonald and sent a slap shot over Garon with 15:55 to play, leading the Ducks to their ninth win in 11 games.

The victory moved Anaheim within two points of fourth-place Nashville.

"We are just playing so well right now, and we have lots of confidence," said Selanne, whose four-point effort against the Kings gives him 22 points in his last 10 games. "This team is unbelievable right now. Every line is doing their job."

The Ducks scored three power-play goals in four chances against the Kings. Aside from the winner, Selanne had one goal in the first period and Joffrey Lupul also scored on the power play in the second.

Samuel Pahlsson added an even-strength goal for Anaheim with nine minutes to play and an empty net goal in the final minute. Corey Perry got another goal with less than a second to play.

McDonald assisted on three goals.

"They've got a good team and they play hard," Garon said. "Selanne has always been on top of us, he's always been playing great. We made some mistakes and it cost us the game."

Tim Gleason and Craig Conroy scored for the Kings, who saw their chances for moving into an eight-place tie with Vancouver undermined by a 1-for-4 penalty-killing effort against the Ducks.

"I think three of their power play goals were scored on the rush, that's not the most common play on the power play, but they executed it well," said Kings defenseman Mattias Norstrom.

The Kings might need to win their final five games to get in the playoffs.

"For us there is only one way to look at it, we know we have 10 more points available for us out there," said Norstrom. "We put ourselves in a position where we don't have any other options."
