WASHINGTON -- Dan Boyle scored a power-play goal in overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 comeback victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night in the exhibition opener for both teams.
Boyle beat Washington goalie Olaf Kolzig with a long shot. Marc Denis, acquired from Columbus in the offseason, made 40 saves in his Lightning debut.
Washington built a 2-0 lead on a goal from Alexander Semin just 2:20 into the first period, and another from Matt Pettinger at 12:24 in the second.
But Norman Milley cut the deficit in half four minutes after Pettinger's goal, poking Rob Dimaio's centering feed past Kolzig. Vincent Lecavalier tied it midway through the third on a 5-on-3 advantage, when his centering pass deflected off the skate of Washington's Brian Potheir and past Kolzig, who finished with 33 saves.
