Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby scored in the second round of the shootout, but Buffalo's Thomas Vanek tied it in the third round. On Friday night in Ottawa, Vanek scored three goals in the Sabres' 4-3 win over the Senators.
Crosby had two assists to help Pittsburgh (1-1-2) take a 2-0 lead in the first period. Niks Ekman opened the scoring midway through the period and Kristopher Letang adding a power-play goal with 30 seconds left.
Henrik Tallinder had a second-period goal for Buffalo (3-1-0) and Jason Pominville tied it at 2 in the third.
