Tenkrat's two goals anchor Bruins' victory over Flyers

PHILADELPHIA -- The Boston Bruins are getting scoring from some unexpected sources.

Petr Tenkrat netted two goals during a wild second period and helped the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 on Monday night.

Marco Sturm, P.J. Axelsson, Brandon Bochenski, and Marc Savard also scored for the Bruins, who have won four of five.

"We need some scoring from some other guys," coach Dave Lewis said. "We talked about that as a group the other night. Some of the other guys have to step up. We can't keep going to the same well. They responded tonight."

It was Tenkrat's first goals in 26 games, giving him six for the season. Axelsson hadn't scored in 14 contests.

"He (Tenkrat) really capitalized," Lewis said. "He was around the puck. He has an excellent shot and it's sure nice to see him score."

Jeff Carter, Kyle Calder, and Scottie Upshall, playing his first game in Philadelphia since being acquired Thursday in the deal that sent captain Peter Forsberg to Nashville, scored for the Flyers. They had won three of four.

Boston's Tim Thomas made 30 saves in earning his fourth win in five games.

Sturm put the Bruins ahead 1-0 at 13:38 of the first period when he deflected in Savard's shot during a power play.

Each team scored three goals in the second period.

"The way that period was going, that's why I was a little scared and back on my heels," Thomas said. "It was fortunate that as a team we solidified it up in the third period."

Upshall scored his second goal in two games with Philadelphia to pull the Flyers into a 1-1 tie 43 seconds into the second period. He snapped a shot in after taking a pass from Carter, who scored at 7:08 with a spin move in front to make it 2-1.

"It's just two games," Upshall said. "It's nothing yet. I put a couple of pucks in the net. But so far, I'm just trying to fit in with the team."

"I really like Scottie," Flyers coach John Stevens said. "He's a really smart player. He is tenacious on the puck. He has good vision, he can get around the net and he has a quick release."

Axelsson tied it 34 seconds later and Tenkrat put the Bruins in front 3-2 at 11:17. Both players scored on wrist shots from the left circle.

Tenkrat made it 4-2 by hammering in a rebound at 15:36.

"I felt pretty good today and it was unbelievable how I scored," Tenkrat said. "I'm just very happy about how I could help the team win."

Calder brought the Flyers closer by following up his own shot during a scramble in front at 16:12.

Bochenski scored off a 3-on-1 rush at 3:10 of the third period, and Savard added an empty-net goal with 32 seconds left as the Bruins scored twice on only three shots in the period.

Philadelphia was without winger Mike Knuble, who is out indefinitely and awaiting facial surgery. He broke his right orbital bone and cheekbone during a violent collision with New York's Brendan Shanahan on Saturday.
