TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella reached a personal milestone, while Toronto battled back for a key point.
Dan Boyle scored a power-play goal with 2:58 left in overtime and the Lightning beat the Maple Leafs 3-2 on Friday night.
"It was a quick play and I just tried to put it upstairs," Boyle said.
Boyle, who also had two assists, scored from the left circle. Vincent Lecavalier picked up his second assist of the game in setting up the game-winner.
Tortorella tied Bob Johnson for the most NHL wins by an Amercian-born coach with 234.
Michel Ouellet and Alexandre Picard also had power-play goals for the Lightning, who had lost five in a row. Mike Smith made 23 saves.
Alex Steen and Jason Blake had third-period goals for Toronto, while Vesa Toskala stopped 24 shots. The Maple Leafs moved within five points of eighth place Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference.
"Our guys fought hard and competed hard, and played their best period in the third when we were down and got an important point," Maple Leafs coach Paul Maurice said.
Steen pulled the Maple Leafs to 2-1 just 27 seconds into the third. He skated completely around the net and scored on a baackhander. Blake tied it at 2 with 8:31 left in the period, when he skated in from the left wing and scored despite an attempt to slow him down from behind by Lightning defenseman Shane O'Brien.
"The second intermission we were just talking about getting going and how important this game is for us," Steen said. "I thought we came out with some urgency in the third and did a good job."
Lecavalier hit the post from the right circle with 4:33 remaining in the third. He has gone eight games without a goal, but has eight assists over the stretch.
Ouellet put the Lightning ahead 1-0 with a power-play goal at 8:51 of the first. He has scored a goal in three consecutive games.
Picard made it 2-0 on his first goal since Feb. 22, 2007 -- a span of 21 games -- during a power play with 7:47 left in the second. Picard poked home a rebound after Boyle's shot hit the end boards and bounced out in front of the net.
Both goalies made strong saves in the opening two periods. Smith made a glove save on Matthew Stajan's shot from just outside crease late in the first. Toskala was down on the ice when he reached out with left arm to make a glove stop on Martin St. Louis' rebound attempt midway through the second.
