Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin was injured in the first period of Saturday night's game against Boston and will not return due to a "lower body injury" according to the team.

He was injured when he tried to finish an open-ice check on Bruins forward Milan Lucic.

It did not go well for Emelin as he clearly took the worst of it.

Entering Saturday's game, Emelin was averaging more than 20 minutes per game for the Canadiens and scored three goals to go with nine assists.
