Brad Stuart suspended three games for hit on Rick Nash
Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart was fined three games by the NHL on Wednesday for a check to the head of Rangers forward Rick Nash on Tuesday night.
The check from Stuart, which caught Nash near the head, resulted in a minor penalty in the game for Stuart, who was playing his first game of the season. Nash played the remainder of the first period but left the game in the second and said he was concerned about how he felt.
This is a stiff penalty from the league, Shanahan's first suspension of the regular season. He admits in the video that Stuart actually did a lot of things correct in the league's eyes but it was a move upward that resulted in Stuart's shoulder catching Nash in the head and drawing the ire of the league. Perhaps the three-game penalty is a sign that the league is going to get tougher this season to really try and send the message. It's tough for Stuart to get the three games but as long as its consistent moving forward there can be little complaint.
As a result of the suspension, Stuart will also be fined. He will forfeit $55,384.62 in salary.
