David Backes won't play in Game 3 for Blues, Patrik Berglund in
David Backes will miss Game 3 for the Blues after the hit that earned Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook a three-game suspension.
The Blues captain was on the receiving end of a hit to the head late in Game 2 over the weekend, a hit the resulted in a three-game suspension for Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook. Backes was
clearly concussed dazed and needed help leaving the ice from the Blues medical staff.
Backes was able to make the short trip to Chicago with his teammates but didn't partake in the team's skate on Monday morning and will not be in the lineup.
Exactly how big of a loss, even if expected, is Backes? Well Ken Hitchcock put it in terms that Blackhawks fans can relate to.
Hitch on losing Backes: "What would Chicago be like with losing Toews, and for us Backes is Toews. So it's a big hole for us."— Dan Rosen (@drosennhl) April 21, 2014
So yes, it's a pretty big loss. Backes, along with T.J. Oshie and Alexander Steen, is on the Blues' top line, a line that not only produces offense but is tasked with playing the toughest minutes. Not to mention Backes brings a big physical presence to the game, something every team wants to have at this time of the season.
At least there was some good news for the Blues on Monday as Hitchcock did say that Patrik Berglund will be in the lineup on Monday night.
