GIF: Czech Republic's Michal Plutnar knocks down official at WJC
Czech Republic defenseman Michal Plutnar leveled a linesman in trying to go after Canada's Connor McDavid.
The World Junior Championship is often full of passionate play and national pride, but it also is a tournament played by teenagers. One such teen perhaps got a little too passionate.
Michal Plutnar of the Czech Republic was none too happy with Canada’s Connor McDavid for shooting at the Czech net after the final buzzer had sounded in the second period. When the lineseman went to intervene, Plutnar knocked him straight to the ice with a forearm shiver. GIF via Josh Gold-Smith:
That’s not smart.
He only got a two-minute minor for roughing somehow, but Canada did score on the ensuing power play in the opening of the third period to tie the game. It sapped all the momentum the Czech Republic had earned after taking a 2-1 lead into the third.
Plutnar, in fact, had scored the Czech’s go-ahead goal earlier in the second period. He may yet hear from the IIHF which does have a supplemental discipline panel set up for the tournament.
