GIF: Douglas Murray with an unlikely goal
Penguins defenseman Douglas Murray has scored just two goals in his past 176 NHL games. He scored a big one on Sunday against the Islanders.
I've been very critical of Douglas Murray's play this season, both in San Jose and Pittsburgh. He's not the player he used to be and he's had his issues defensively.
That said, credit where credit is due. Here he is scoring an unlikely goal for the Penguins late in the second period of Sunday's game, incredibly picking the top corner over Evgeni Nabokov's glove hand.
How unlikely is that goal coming from Murray?
Consider that entering Sunday's game Murray had scored just two goals in his previous 56 NHL playoff games. He had only one goal during the 2013 season, which ended a 100-plus game drought, and has scored just two since the 2010-11 season, a stretch of 176 games.
And here he is scoring a big goal in a playoff game.
Hockey's a crazy sport sometimes.
