GIF: Tomas Plekanec called for embellishment, Rangers score on PP
Tomas Plekanec got called for the rare embellishment without a matching minor in Game 5 in the second period, leading to a Rangers goal on the power play.
Following Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals, embellishment was a bit of a topic. The Montreal Canadiens were doing their best to either sell calls or earn the next starring role on Broadway. It worked as the Rangers were drawing penalties but the replays weren't flattering.
Perhaps the officials got a talking to about it before Game 5 because for a very rare time, embellishment and nothing more was called on Tomas Plekanec in the second period.
The call came at a crucial time, right when the Rangers were overcoming a 4-1 deficit. They had scored two goals and then Martin St. Louis came by and raised his stick in front of Plekanec but never actually appeared to make contact.

That didn't stop Plekanec from snapping his head back as if in pain but the officials saw right through it and put Plekanec in the box.
On the ensuing power play? The Rangers tied the game up at 4-4. It's bad when you're in the box when the other team scores a big goal, it's even worse when it's a penalty for embellishment that put you in the sin bin.
Montreal did get the lead right back just a short while later to cap off the scoring in a crazy second period, a period that pretty clearly had it all.
