Jared Staal recalled by Canes, joins brothers Eric, Jordan in Carolina
The Hurricanes recalled Jared Staal on Wednesday, meaning the Canes could ice a line with three brothers.
Normally this would be noteworthy only for die-hard Hurricane fans considering the team has been eliminated from the playoffs and are just playing out the string. Normally.
You might recognize that surname, Staal. Jared is the youngest of the Staal brothers and by being recalled by the Hurricanes, he joins Eric Staal and Jordan Staal with the Canes. When Eric and Jordan joined this season in Carolina they weren't the first two brothers to play together but adding a third brother? Well that's uncharted territory.
Sorry, the Hanson Brothers don't count.
Considering the Canes have nothing left to play for this season, why not go all out on this Staal brothers thing? Might as well start the game with Eric at center, Jordan on the left wing and Jared on the right wing. You don't have to stay that way if you're coach Kirk Muller, but for one shift to start the game? Why not?
The only way this could be better is if fourth brother Marc Staal were healthy enough to play because the Rangers are who Jared will make his debut against, Marc's team. Unfortunately he remains out of the lineup after taking a puck to the eye.
Jared, 22, has four goals and three assists in 52 games this season for AHL Charlotte.
