John Scott suspended seven games for head shot on Loui Eriksson
Sabres enforcer John Scott was given a seven-game suspension for his hit to the head of Bruins forward Loui Eriksson.
Scott had previously been suspended indefinitely while being extended an in-person hearing. He has already sat out three games and will miss the fourth on Thursday night when the Sabres play the Rangers. He's eligible to return on Nov. 8.
Some were expecting Scott to have the book thrown at him in this case, so more than seven games. But keep in mind that Scott had never faced any supplemental discipline before in his career. His status as a first-timer makes a seven-game suspension pretty stiff .
In his usually thorough breakdown on the hit, Brendan Shanahan describes all that Scott did wrong and how the follow through with Scott's elbow going high and through the hit didn't help matters. Further, he cited the fact that Scott had never had a bad hit before as proof that him being 6'8 isn't an obstacle to avoid hits to the head as he had on Eriksson.
As a result of the suspension Scott will also surrender $26,923.05 in salary.
