Marian Gaborik expected to miss 4-6 weeks with sprained knee
Marian Gaborik will miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a sprained knee in Thursday night's game against the Boston Bruins.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have been off to a rather disappointing start and the news didn’t get any better today regarding their outlook. According to the team spokesperson Todd Sharrock, forward Marian Gaborik will miss four to six weeks with a knee sprain.
The three-time 40-goal scorer hasn’t made as big of an impact as he was expected to, but is obviously still a key part of Columbus’ offensive attack.
The 31-year-old winger has 19 points in 29 career contests with the club dating back to last season when he was acquired from the New York Rangers. This year, Gaborik has averaged 17:36 of ice time a night and has 11 points in 17 games.
Columbus is mired in last place in the Metropolitan Division with a 6-10-2 record. Not having Gaborik and his breakout potential offensively is going to make that hill a little tougher to climb.
For Gaborik, this is another setback in a series of many over his 14-year career. He has appeared in more than 80 games just twice over that span and has missed an average of 14 games a season. The last two years have probably been the healthiest stretch of his long career, so this is particularly disappointing for both the player and team.
