NHL trade rumors: Marian Gaborik being shopped by Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets are reportedly actively trying to trade Marian Gaborik, hoping for defensive help in return.
Like most players on the block, Gaborik is a free agent after this season and so without a deal yet -- and one seemingly unlikely to come -- they want to offload him. Aaron Portzline has a few more details on the specifics.
#CBJ GM Jarmo Kekalainen knee deep right now, trying to move Marian Gaborik. Believe they're looking for immediate help on defense.— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) March 4, 2014
Gaborik has had a problem staying healthy this season so his numbers don't look great -- six goals, seven assists in 21 games -- but he just returned to the lineup and has shown the past few years he's a more-than capable scorer. But fitting in his salary cap hit of $7.5 million will prove to be a challenge for a lot of teams if they're interested.
Apparently there is one potential suitor on the West Coast according to Portzline.
#LAKings are in on Gaborik. Nothing would spike their interest more than if #Ducks land Vanek.— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) March 4, 2014
The Kings have been on the lookout for a scorer for a while so Gaborik fits that profile. The Vanek speculation really picked up with a bevy of Ducks moves on Tuesday, seemingly opening up space where they could try to fit somebody in like Vanek.
