PHOTO: ECHL teams to wear Star Wars X-Wing, Darth Vader uniforms
In the greatest themed night the hockey galaxy will ever know, two ECHL teams will wear Star Wars uniforms, one dressed as X-Wing pilots, the other as Darth Vader.
Not a long time from now in a hockey galaxy far, far away, the greatest themed sweater night ever is about to take place.
When the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL host the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday, they will be wearing without a doubt the most original and coolest sweaters you'll ever see.
Yes, that would be Luke Skywalker's X-Wing outfit on the left and Darth Vader's ensemble on the right. The home team Walleye will of course represent the Alliance while the Wings will be good sports and play the role of the Dark Side.
I don't want to get too excited here but HOW AWESOME IS THIS?!! One of these teams needs to sign Ilya Bryzgalov for this game only so he can bring his helmet to join the fun.
What I want to know is what will the refs be wearing? Maybe they can dress up like Boba Fett seeing how it's their job to rein in the bad guys. They can paint the center ice logo like the Death Star. The goal song can be Cantina Band.
Like the galaxy, the options are endless! In fact, the Walleye will have a lot more going on. From their website:
• Fans are encouraged to come in their best Star Wars outfits and prizes will be awarded to the best costume
• Special Star Wars-themed dining options to include Chewbacca Bacon Burger, Jedi Juice, Yoda Soda, and more
•Star Wars-themed video board elements and sounds will be taking place throughout the game
•Star Wars characters -- including Chewbacca, Stormtroopers, Biker Scouts, Tusken Raiders, Clones and Jedi -- will be available for fan photos on the main concourse
The Stanley Cup is even going to be in attendance. I can only pray that they dress the Cup up to look like R2D2. That would be sacrilege but totally worth it for one night.
The force is strong in the Walleye. Minor-league hockey, please don't ever change.
