PHOTO: Hershey Bears wear special Groundhog Day uniforms
Sunday is Groundhog Day so the Hershey Bears honored it with special Punxsutawny Phil sweaters.
Teams across the hockey world hardly need a reason anymore to make special uniforms as even Groundhog Day is special enough to warrant custom duds.
The Hershey Bears, AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, celebrated a Pennsylvania tradition with their Groundhog Day uniforms for Sunday's contest against the Norfolk Admirals. They're very cartoonish uniforms.
You see, it's more winter on the front as Phil sees his shadow in dismay, but early spring in the back without the shadow. Clever.
On the ice, the jerseys looked different and more amazing because what that above picture doesn't show is the socks and this uniform is really made by these socks.
Hershey isn't exactly right around the corner from Punxsutawney and everybody's favorite groundhog but hey, in the name of charity it's hard to argue against cartoon sweaters.
