PHOTO: NHL commissioner Gary Bettman fell asleep on opening night
Nothing illustrates enthusiasm for the start of the NHL campaign like falling asleep as the defending champion Blackhawks kick off the season.
You know who should be excited about the NHL returning? Probably more excited than anyone outside of Blackhawks fans?
It should be NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who took in Tuesday night’s thrilling 6-4 Chicago victory over Washington. The Blackhawks, after all, raised their championship banner before the start of the tilt. It wasn't supposed to be a dull night.
Maybe Bettman was overwhelmed, because as one Deadspin tipster said, “he was asleep and had been dozing for most of the period.”
If that image doesn't engender enthusiasm for the NHL, then I don't even know.
