Report: Miikka Kiprusoff won't report to new team if traded
If the Calgary Flames decide to trade veteran goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff, he may not report to the new team, citing family reasons.
The Calgary Flames are one of the few teams in the NHL that we can clearly look at as sellers ahead of next week's trade deadline. They have a couple of players that have been mentioned in rumors, with one of them being veteran goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.
But he may not exactly be open to a trade.
According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, Kiprusoff has told Flames management that if he is traded he will not report to a new team, citing family reasons.
Kiprusoff still has one more year remaining on his contract after this season at a cap hit of $5.8 million. Even if the Flames do look to trade him, there may not be a huge market given how few teams in the NHL have a need for a veteran starting goaltender. One team that's been mentioned in recent days is the Toronto Maple Leafs, which makes little sense given how strong James Reimer and Ben Scrivens have been.
In 15 games this season Kiprusoff has a .873 save percentage to go with a 6-7-2 record.
