Roberto Luongo will start Game 2 for Canucks vs. Sharks
Roberto Luongo will return to the starting lineup for the Vancouver Canucks for Game 2 on Friday night.
Roberto Luongo will be back in the starting lineup for the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night for Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series, coach Alain Vigneault announced Thursday afternoon.
Luongo received the start in Game 1, which the Canucks lost 3-1, because starter Cory Schneider still isn't ready to return to the lineup with what is simply being called "a body injury."
Luongo was backed up on Wednesday by Joe Cannata and most likely will be again on Friday.
Vigneault would only say on Thursday that Schneider is still listed as being day-to-day.
Luongo, the subject of constant trade rumors over the past year, appeared in 20 games for the Canucks this season, posting a .907 save percentage.
While he took the loss on Wednesday, he played well -- he made the save of the night in the first period when he robbed San Jose's Martin Havlat -- and is still one of the better goaltenders in the league. There are not many teams in the NHL that can say that about their backup goalie, so the Canucks should still be in good hands with Schneider out of the lineup.
