Sidney Crosby tops NHL list of best-selling jerseys for 2013
The NHL's most-sold sweater in 2013? Why, Sidney Crosby of course, edging out Pavel Datsyuk for the honors in the NHL offices.
If it feels like you see a lot more Sidney Crosby sweaters than any other player there's a pretty good reason for it: it's because you probably do.
Here's the full top 20.
20. Logan Couture
19. Tyler Seguin
18. Anze Kopitar
17. Phil Kessel
16. Rick Nash
15. Steven Stamkos
14. Zach Parise
13. Henrik Zetterberg
12. Joe Thornton
11. Zdeno Chara
10. Milan Lucic
9. Evgeni Malkin
8. Henrik Lundqvist
7. Claude Giroux
6. Ryan Callahan
5. Patrick Kane
4. Alex Ovechkin
3. Jonathan Toews
2. Pavel Datsyuk
1. Sidney Crosby
One distinction must be made here and that's that these are just sales from the NHL shop, not from other outlets or even the individual teams. That might explain why only one player on a Canadian team, Phil Kessel at No. 17, cracks the list. There is no shortage of Kessel, Joffrey Lupul, James van Riemsdyk, etc. sweaters in and around Toronto or Sedin sweaters in Vancouver.
Still, all you have to do is look at the list of the NHL's top-selling jerseys and you can understand why we see the same teams on the national broadcasts all the time. The Sharks, Red Wings, Rangers, Bruins, Blackhawks and Penguins each have more than one player cracking the top 20. Sounds like NBC's regular slate of teams, too.
