VIDEO: Alex Ovechkin gets Olympic Torch relay started in Greece
Alex Ovechkin was in Olympic, Greece on Sunday to start the massive Olympic Torch relay that will go all throughout Russia before the Sochi Games.
While the Washington Capitals get ready to open the season Tuesday night against the defending champion Blackhawks in Chicago, their captain Alex Ovechkin was spending time in Greece on Sunday to be the first Russian Torchbearer for the Winter Games in Sochi next February.
Ovechkin was on hand just outside the Temple of Hera in Olympia and as soon as the Torch was lit in the traditional ceremony and then brought out of the temple, Ovechkin was there waiting to receive it as Russia's Olympic ambassador and begin the monstrous Torch relay through all of Russia.
Needless to say, Ovi was a little excited to take part in the ceremony.
Now that he's taken part in that, Ovechkin will fly back to the States, rejoin his team in Washington, fly to Chicago for the opener then fly back to Washington for the Caps' home-opener on Thursday. So yea, he might be a little fatigued the first game or two.
