VIDEO: Brendan Gallagher assists Pacioretty goal on crazy backhander
Max Pacioretty scored in the second period of Game 5 but all the credit goes to Brendan Gallagher with a tremendous backhand assist while falling.
The diminutive Canadiens forward was making things happen in the second period, coming down the boards with Rangers defenseman Marc Staal trying to hold him off so Gallagher hit the brakes on the half-wall.
Still fighting, Staal tried to get back in the play, which caused Gallagher to tumble to the ice, but he didn't turn the puck over. Oh no, he instead passed the puck across ice on his backhand while falling to his stomach right to the tape of Pacioretty on the far side.
From there Pacioretty moved in and beat Henrik Lundqvist for a rather soft goal. But the pass? Anything but soft.
Gallagher is really developing into quite the player for the Canadiens. He surprised many last season with a Calder Trophy finalist position and that development has continued as he posted 41 points in 81 games this season, the latest little man to hit it big in Montreal.
