VIDEO: Claude Giroux finally scores first goal of season
It took 16 games, but Flyers captain Claude Giroux finally scored his first goal of the season with a laser shot past Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk.
It’s been a growing storyline over the last few weeks as Claude Giroux trudged along without a goal this NHL season. The Philadelphia Flyers captain can quiet that talk, at least for a little bit now, as he scored his first goal of the season Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers.
Streaking down the left wing, Giroux cut to the middle and wired a shot inside the left post for an emphatic first goal of the year.
The Flyers have been dreadful offensively and Giroux has deservedly gotten a lot of the blame as his drought reached 15 games, but ven the best players in the league can go through lengthy dry spells. Sometimes the first one is the hardest to get.
We’ll see if this can change Giroux’s fortunes going forward and if they do, if it can change the Flyers' fortunes as well.
Saturday was potentially a start, as Giroux's goal ended up as the game-winner with Philly claiming a 4-2 victory over the Oilers.
