VIDEO: Corey Perry cuts through Phoenix defense for creative goal
Corey Perry put on some creative moves to cut through four defenders and roofed a shot on Mike Smith for a pretty goal.
When not laying body checks on referees, Corey Perry is one of the elite offensive talents in the NHL. The Anaheim Ducks forward showed why he has a Hart Trophy to his name with a particularly creative goal against the Phoenix Coyotes Saturday.
It all started with Ryan Getzlaf making a few nice moves before dishing the puck to Perry who had four Coyotes players between him and the net. Perry closed in, cut towards the middle, flipped the puck up to himself and hopped through two stick checks before finding the space and putting a shot up and over Mike Smith.
It’s not the flashiest move in the world, but it’s a goal Perry wholly created on his own after taking the pass from Getzlaf. The other two defenders at that point were trying to take away his passing outlets. That gave Perry all the room he needed to finish.
Getzlaf’s moves won’t get pointed out a bunch on the highlight reel, but the two moves he made to keep control of the puck are rather filthy as well.
Ducks fans must be glad these two fellas are locked up for the next eight years.
