VIDEO: Gustav Nyquist shakes off D to score great breakaway goal
Gustav Nyquist can't be stopped, even when you try to take him down from behind as the Lightning tried on Sunday. He still scored on the play.
The Tampa Bay Lightning now know this as they tried their best to take Nyquist down from behind on a breakaway with a hook, a trip; everything they could think of. It didn't work.
Instead Nyquist shook off the backcheck, kept control of the puck, deked Lightning goalie Ben Bishop and then finished on the open net from a sharp angle to complete a ridiculous play. It very likely would have been a penalty shot but Nyquist doesn't need no stinkin' penalty shot to score.
For Nyquist it is the latest in what has been a magical run to lead the Red Wings toward the playoffs. It's the 27th goal of the season for Nyquist but more incredibly it was the 11th in his past nine games and it was probably the best of the bunch.
Simply put, Nyquist is for real.
