Video: Ilya Kovalchuk hits crossbar with 20 seconds to play in regulation
Ilya Kovalchuk nearly scored a huge goal late in the third period on Saturday night, only to hit the crossbar behind Jonathan Quick. This is what it looked like.
NEWARK, N.J. -- The Kings and Devils made some NHL history on Saturday night by going to overtime for the second straight game to open the Stanley Cup Final, the first time in 61 years that's happened.
We almost never made it to that point.
With less than 25 seconds to play in regulation the Devils were inches away from winning when this shot from Ilya Kovalchuk hit the crossbar behind Kings goalie Jonathan Quick.
Kovalchuk had a pretty quiet night before that shot, and was just a few inches off on his best chance.
