VIDEO: Kings, Blackhawks score 12 seconds apart in wild Game 7
The Kings came back from an early 2-0 hole thanks to Mr. Game 7 Justin Williams but just 12 seconds later Patrick Sharp but Chicago back up 3-2. In the first period.
Game 7 already promised to be highly entertaining with the last two Stanley Cup champions battling once more to see who will return to the Final but the first period set a new standard for entertainment. And oddities.
The Blackhawks jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Brandon Saad and Jonathan Toews but the Kings came storming back in the period. First there was Jeff Carter's baseball swing to knock the puck in and then, with a little more than 2:30 left in the period, it was Mr. Game 7 himself, Justin Williams, who tied it up.
Williams scored on a rebound attempt in the slot, meaning he is now tied for the all-time record for goals in Game 7s with seven goals and also a record-tying 13 points in what is now a little more than six games.
But the Kings had no time to enjoy getting the back game to even because just 12 seconds later the Blackhawks took the lead right back thanks in part to Patrick Sharp but also in part to the ice at United Center and Jonathan Quick's slow reactions.
Sharp's shot took a big hop off the ice that even Ernie Banks would have had a tough time with, skipping right on past him and in. For Quick is was a thud on a dud of a first period in which he allowed three goals on just seven Blackhawks shots.
Sharp, meanwhile, had to be thrilled to get something on the board as he has gone quiet in these playoffs of late.
This series should never end.
