VIDEO: Marc-Andre Fleury makes spectacular shootout save
Marc-Andre Fleury stoned Daniel Alfredsson in the shootout with an awesome save and moments later Jussi Jokinen scored the winner on a bizarre goal.
Who says the skill in the "skills competition" is all about the skaters? Some goalies have some serious skills too.
Few goaltenders are as good as Marc-Andre Fleury when it comes to the shootout. This season in 31 shots against he has given up just five goals. Season after season he's consistenly solid in the tie-breaker. That's because he can make saves like this.
Daniel Alfredsson appeared to have Fleury beaten cleanly until Fleury did a bit of a cartwheel and managed to get his arm down to keep the puck out of the net. Amazing.
Sure, you could say that Alfredsson should have elevated the puck but honestly, who would have thought he needed to? Almost every time against almost any other goalie, that one is in the back of the net. Not this one.
Then, to top it off, Jussi Jokinen won the shootout in another memorable play. He lost the puck momentarily which enticed Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson to go for the poke check. He got it, but all he did was deflect the puck up and over his own head and into the net for the only goal in the shootout for the 3-2 Penguins win. (Via @MyRegularFace.)
What a shootout.
It wasn't all bad for the Wings, though; with the one point they did clinch their playoff spot for a 23rd consecutive season.
