Martin St. Louis has shrugged off not making Team Canada by going on an absolute tear with the Tampa Bay Lightning. That remarkable run has continued Saturday with St. Louis notching a hat trick in the first period against the San Jose Sharks and adding another in the second stanza for good measure.

St. Louis’ second goal of the game will be the most memorable of the four, though. After going in on a breakaway, St. Louis was at first stopped by Sharks netminder Antti Niemi. It looked like the play was dead after that, but it wasn’t.

St. Louis somehow reached behind his back with his stick without moving his upper body too much and got a good shot away on the backhand. It found a way past Niemi to tie the game. There just aren’t many players in the league who could do something like that.

Here’s a look at St. Louis’ hat trick goal, which was a bit wacky as well.

St. Louis scored again early in the second period for his fourth goal in the first 22 minutes of the game.

Since the Tampa Bay Lightning captain was cut from Team Canada Jan. 7, he has had points in every game, including eight goals and three assists. You won’t like Marty when he’s angry, unless you’re a Lightning fan that is.
