VIDEO: Matt Moulson scores on second shift with Sabres
Matt Moulson was hardly a 'throw-in' in the Thomas Vanek trade. Moulson scored on just his second shift as a Buffalo Sabre on Monday night.
Matt Moulson was seen as "the other player" in the big Thomas Vanek trade on Sunday night but the former Islander-turned-Sabres winger is hardly a throw-in. He proved that on his second shift in Buffalo on Monday night.
Moulson, who made it upstate in time to be in the lineup for the Sabres against the Stars, scored just 3:26 into the game on a rush, a play that was set up beautifully by Tyler Ennis. He made it so all Moulson had to do was receive the pass and one-time it home from the slot. For a player like Moulson, that was no problem.
It only seems right to see No. 26 scoring a goal for Buffalo (you'll recall that was Vanek's number too).
As soon as Moulson was announced to be part of the Vanek trade, pessimism immediately grew that he could still be a 30-goal guy without John Tavares as his center. While this is just one goal, it's an awfully nice start to quite those doubts.
Let's not forget that Moulson has a contract to play for himself as his contract is up (and the Sabres haven't dismissed the possibility of trading Moulson before the deadline this year, either). With his first Sabres goal, he has seven on the season.
