It wasn’t an overly pretty game, and the goal that won it in overtime for the Washington Capitals wasn’t exactly of the highlight-reel variety. It won’t matter to the Caps, though.

Mike Ribeiro swept the puck into a wide-open net to give Washington the 2-1 victory and 3-2 advantage in its series against the New York Rangers.

The Capitals out-shot New York 35-25, including 13-4 in the third period. Henrik Lundqvist had been mostly solid throughout the game for the Rangers. But as Karl Alzner’s point shot took a bounce off a skate in front, the Vezina finalist was caught well out of position. It was as easy as it comes for Ribeiro, who scored his first-career playoff OT winner.

Needless to say, the normally mild-mannered King Henrik wasn’t happy about it.
