VIDEO: MSG analyst 'eats' own hat on air after Ryan Callahan traded
Longtime New York hockey reporter Stan Fischler was convinced Ryan Callahan wouldn't be trades that he said he would eat his hat. Saturday was supper time.
Go back a few weeks when those Ryan Callahan trade rumors started swirling, they were tough to imagine as being legit. Callahan was the Rangers' captain, one of their heart-and-soul players for a team that appears to be headed for the postseason again.
Trading him, while it did make some sense, just didn't seem right. No way it would happen. Longtime New York hockey analyst Stan Fischler, now with MSG Network, was so confident Callahan wouldn't get traded, he said he would eat his hat covered in maple syrup if Cally were actually dealt.
On deadline day, Callahan was dealt, sent to the Tampa Bay Lightning with some draft picks for Martin St. Louis. That meant Fischler better whet that appetite, he had a bet to own up to.
On Saturday he did just that, going so far as to "eat" his hat. Really he just licked maple syrup off the brim but hey, it'll work, we imagine that texture is a bit tough to chew and get down.
