VIDEO: Paul Stastny scores with 13 seconds left to force overtime
The Avalanche overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period against the Wild in Game 1, capped off by Paul Stastny's goal with 13 seconds left to force OT.
Nothing beats the drama of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nothing.
While Chicago and St. Louis were getting prepared for a third overtime after some late-game heroics, the Colrado Avalanche were pulling their own rabbit out of a hat.
After cutting a two-goal deficit to one in the third period, the Avalanche still had some work to do to catch the Wild. Always aggressive, Patrick Roy pushed the envelope and pulled his goaltender Semyon Varlamov with three minutes on the lock, essentially giving his team a power play the rest of the way. They needed nearly every second of it.
With the mad final push on in the offensive zone, Paul Stastny was waiting to the left of Wild goalie Ilya Bryzgalov and was in the right spot when a rebound ricocheted off Bryzgalov's pads right to an unmarked Stastny. His job wasn't done, though, he still had to finish from a very sharp angle.
So with 13 seconds to go, the game was back at Square One and headed for overtime because you can never have enough overtime in the playoffs.
