VIDEO: Ryan Getzlaf suffers gross injury after smashed into boards
Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf was the victim of a hit into the boards and came away with one disgusting injury. He came back but the hitter, Kyle Quincey, didn't.
In the first period of their game in Detroit, the Red Wings defenseman followed Getzlaf into the corner to retrieve the puck. It was at that point that Quincey delivered a bad hit right to the numbers of Getzlaf and sent him flying into the boards, face first.
It was a brutal collision with the boards and Quicney was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct. He'll also likely get a few games from the NHL department of player safety, especially seeing how he has been suspended before.
The bigger concern though was the health of Ryan Getzlaf, who is having an MVP season for one of the league's best teams. Getzlaf went down the tunnel and was gone for a while. The good news is that he came back but only after being treated for one nasty sounding issue back in the trainer's room.

I ... I don't even know what to say. That sounds brutal, painful and disgusting all at the same time. The good news is it could have been a lot worse, this likely beats having a concussion and missing a few games. Being a hockey player and all, he was back in a few minutes. But just ... yuck.
