VIDEO: See, hear Yankee Stadium game from referee's view point
Referee Wes McCauley was mic'd up and equipped with a GoPro camera on Sunday at Yankee Stadium, making for one unique way to see a game.
With Sunday's game between the Rangers and Devils being played in Yankee Stadium, there were plenty of new and unique vantage points to see the game from. None of those is as close to the action, though, as the video from referee Wes McCauley.
The NHL put the GoPro technology to excellent use, strapping it to the helmet of the referee in the game and giving him a microphone for the game and then the NHL put it all together for a pretty awesome video.
One of the scenes in the video, the clip where the referees discussed a Rangers goal and potential goalie interference, was seen on NBC's broadcast on Sunday but the rest of it is new. Such as when Stephen Gionta took a puck to the neck right in front of McCauley or when he was explaining the penalty calls to the players. It's a really an interesting prism, one we don't see very much of in hockey.
