Sergey Tolchinsky sat through two days at the NHL Draft last June and never got to hear his name called. Though he eventually signed a free-agent deal with the Carolina Hurricanes after a dazzling performance at their rookie camp as a non-drafted invitee, Tolchinsky has made a habit of proving a lot of people wrong this year.

For his latest "that'll show 'em" moment, Tolchinsky scored one of the most creative goals you'll ever see on a breakaway. The skilled forward, who plays for the Soo Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League, found himself in open ice, turned on the jets and did this ...

Make sure to watch every angle. His hands are so quick, you barely notice what he does the first time around.

That is, he turned backward, confused the goalie, made a move to put the puck between his legs and flipped a shot inside the left post. Are you kidding? That's a whole new twist on the Tomas Hertl goal from earlier this season.

After putting up 51 points in 62 games last season, the undersized Russian dynamo has exploded for 84 points including 29 goals in 64 games this year for the Greyhounds, who clinched the OHL's West Division this week.

Maybe not getting drafted was just the motivation Tolchinsky needed. Now he and the Hurricanes can look back on last June and have a good laugh about it.
