VIDEO: The very best of Ilya Bryzgalov
Ilya Bryzgalov has had a lot of hilarious moments in media scrums and on the ice. Someone compiled all of the very best into a video that will leave you in stitches.
Ilya Bryzgalov is the most interesting man in hockey. You may love him or you may hate him, but it is very hard to deny that the current Minnesota Wild netminder is an entertaining being in a league that is famous for its relative lack of personality.
Over the years, Bryzgalov has delivered some of the more memorable quotes to the media and when HBO’s 24/7 cameras got to follow him during the 2011-12 season in the lead-up to the Winter Classic, he reached peak quirkiness.
That’s why this video from YouTuber Matt Bryant may be one of the great gifts to the internet this week. He compiled many of Bryzgalov’s most memorable moments and put them all together in a nearly 11-minute video called “Risky Bryzness.” If you’re in need of a laugh, hit play and consider yourself quenched.
There’s everything from Bryzgalov’s famous “Universe” soliloquy from 24/7, which cemented his status as the NHL’s quirkiest character, to his light-hearted jabs at Edmonton that gave us the “why you heff to be mad” quote that is repeated by hockey fans to this day.
There’s even a few of his greatest saves and greatest bloopers on the ice. It has it all.
Bryzgalov and his Minnesota Wild are currently down 2-0 to the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, anything can happen with Bryzgalov from here. Though he may get another deal next year, Bryzgalov may not be long for the league. No matter when he goes, at least we have 11 minutes of his best stuff all in one place. He truly is one of a kind.
