VIDEO: Tyler Seguin scores natural hat trick on hat day in Dallas
Tyler Seguin made the giveaway hats fly when he netted a natural hat trick in the second period of Dallas' 5-1 win over the Flyers.
Tyler Seguin has been pretty good since joining the Dallas Stars. His natural hat trick -- three goals consecutively -- in the second period of Dallas’ 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday was yet another prime example. This wasn’t just any hat trick, though. It was a hat trick on hat day.
It took the crowd a while to figure things out, though. The goal at first looked to belong to Jamie Benn as the puck deflected in the net. Instead, it went off of Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn’s stick. Benn emphatically pointed to Seguin to let him know the goal was his.
When the fans caught wind of Seguin’s trick, the free green hats rained down on the ice.
Note Benn helping with the cleanup by scooping some hats from the ice to the Stars’ bench, perhaps for some immediate souvenirs for his line mate Seguin.
There may have been more hats, but it was a rather modest crowd in Dallas. The area was hit with an ice storm overnight and kept the number of spectators pretty low. So it wasn’t quite the free hat night experience we’ve seen in the past. Either way, hat tricks on hat day/night are the best.
Seguin now has 15 goals on the year. He added an assist in the game and the 21-year-old center now has 27 points in 26 games since coming over from the Boston Bruins in the offseason.
