Andrew Shaw egged on the crowd as he fought Nathan Walker. CSN Mid-Atlantic

After getting under his opponents' skin with the Chicago Blackhawks for the last five seasons, Andrew Shaw will now terrorize the Eastern Conference with the Montreal Canadiens. He got off to a very early start at doing just that in Tuesday night's preseason game between the Habs and Washington Captials.

Shaw probably actually went a bit too far with his antics in his first game in a Montreal uniform.

It all started with a bad hit on Capitals prospect Connor Hobbs, whose back was turned to Shaw the entire time. The new Habs forward drove Hobbs into the boards. Shaw would receive a major penalty for boarding and earned a game misconduct, but Nathan Walker came in to challenge Shaw to fight.

First, here's a look at the hit via CSN Mid-Atlantic:

Shaw obliged Walker's challenge. The two-time Stanley Cup winner has quite a bit more experience when it comes to dropping the gloves compared to Walker, who has not yet suited up in a NHL regular-season game. That's when Shaw decided he was a bit bored and wanted to get the home fans into it, apparently.

With Walker trying to throw some jersey jabs at Shaw, the Habs forward urged the crowd to start cheering. Once the noise reached Shaw's desired level, he started throwing some haymakers at Walker and took the Australian prospect down.

Here's what it looked like from the seats:

Shaw received a misconduct and a game misconduct, collecting 30 minutes in penalties out of one incident.

It appeared that Shaw was slew-footed by Capitals forward Jay Beagle prior to all of this happening. That might explain his elevated aggression, but that doesn't excuse running Hobbs from behind.

Here's a look at that Beagle play via Marc Dumont:

Hobbs briefly left the game, but later returned to action.

Keep in mind that the NHL's Department of Player Safety does have jurisdiction over the preseason and can levy suspensions. Shaw may be looking at one right now and the department will probably be taking a closer look at that possible slew-foot from Beagle.

So it was a pretty eventful preseason game, which Montreal won 5-2.
