The Los Angeles Kings barely made it into overtime at all, but defenseman Alec Martinez made sure he kept his team alive during the extra period.

The Anaheim Ducks had good pressure in the Kings zone and were buzzing around the Los Angeles net. The Kings had a couple chances in tight, with Jonathan Quick making a save or two along the way. Quick eventually found himself out of position as the puck skidded to Corey Perry, who scored 43 goals this season.

That’s where Martinez came in. As Perry went to put the shot on net, Martinez dropped to his knee and like a goaltender, made a bit of a pad save. The puck was then cleared away with Perry left to look on in disbelief as he was thisclose to ending the game.

Martinez actually scored the Kings’ first goal of the game as well, but that block in front may go down as his most memorable play from Game 1.
