Watch Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon score one crazy goal
Dallas Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon's game-tying goal Tuesday night definitely fits the definition of puck luck.
You might hear about puck luck a lot, just getting the bounces to go your way -- all of those usual cliches to explain things away in the game.
It's like something from a Michael Jordan/Larry Bird McDonald's commercial: "Shot from the boards, off the defenseman to the end board, bounce off the boards and onto the goaltender's back. Nothing but net."
Guaranteed, no player could replicate this again if they tried. It's simply an amazing sequence of bounces that managed to go Dillon's way.
Even more impressive to me is that it's not like Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk is a mile outside of his crease or anything; he's actually pretty darn close to the cage. The little room that puck had to land on him and ricochet into the net makes it just that much more stunning.
Was it ugly? In the goal-scoring sense, yes, it was. But Dillon won't care one bit. It was the second goal of his career (which is only 14 games old, but still). I'm going to go out on a pretty big limb here and say he never scores a wackier goal.
The Stars went on to win the game 4-1.
