Malkin says he is 'close': The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Penguins center Evgeni Malkin, who has been out since Oct. 28 with a shoulder injury, was on the ice for Sunday's practice. "I think I'm close," Malkin said of returning to the lineup. He missed his fifth game on Saturday against the Sharks since coach Dan Bylsma predicted 10 days ago he would be out "a couple weeks." "I hope I'm close to (being where) my shoulder is not sore, and it's a little bit stronger, and I hope to come back soon. I'm skating, and my legs feel great." (Updated 11/08/2009).
Injury Report
Shoulder - Out until at least mid-November (Updated - 10/29/09)
Fantasy Analysis
Malkin added that skating does not make his shoulder sore. "I think he's been itching to step onto the ice in a couple different ways, but we want to make sure we're progressing and make sure we're doing the right things and the right steps," Bylsma said. "This is the date we said 'Geno' would be getting on the ice." Malkin is wearing a non-contact jersey and was on the ice for about 15 minutes on Sunday. So while he is upbeat about his recovery, Malkin does appear to be an injury-risk start for Week 6 (Nov. 9-15). He is a high-end Fantasy option when healthy. (Updated 11/08/2009).

Malkin will be lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins for two to three weeks because of a strained right shoulder. Malkin has been attempting to play through the injury, but coach Dan Bylsma says the team decided to rest the center. The star Russian would miss seven games if he is out two weeks and 10 games if he is out three. 10/29/2009
