Backstrom as valuable to Caps as MVP: The Sports Xchange reports Capitals C Nicklas Backstrom sometimes got lost in the hoopla that is two-time league MVP Alex Ovechkin, but the team's star scorer wouldn't be as good without Backstrom. The second-year center is developing into more of a scorer in addition to being a first-rate passer, and finished the 2008-09 season with 88 points. He also had 15 points in 14 playoff games.

If he becomes more of a goal scorer, Backstrom becomes that much more valuable for the Capitals and Fantasy owners. Still, Backstrom continues to shine alongside Ovechkin and should be owned in all Fantasy formats in 2009-10.
