  • Senators' Derick Brassard: Helps down Penguins with two helpers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/12/17) Brassard dished two assists -- one on the power play -- in Thursday's 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh.

This season's been a bumpy one for the veteran pivot, who has a mere 20 points in 40 games -- well off the scoring pace we saw from him over the past two seasons. Brassard's seen an uptick in his production lately, though, netting nine points and 36 shots in his last 12 games, and his history gives fantasy owners good reason to think he'll keep it going in the second half.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Two-point night spoiled by loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/30/16) Brassard delivered an assist and also rifled a one-timer past Red Wings goalie Jared Coreau in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss.

Brassard is a shifty playmaking pivot and the kind of guy you want to watch the moment he starts to heat up. Yeah, you could say that for most players, but Brassard is no stranger to going on lengthy point runs. The 29-year-old collected a goal in three straight games a little over a week ago, and now he's back for more. However, Brassard is slipping in the special teams department as he has just three power-play points after logging a career-high 22 while donning New York's blue shirt last season.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Scores in third straight

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/21/16) Brassard notched a goal on three shots during Tuesday's 4-3 win over Chicago.

Brassard has been one of the more disappointing players so far this season, coming into Tuesday with just six goals and eight assists on the year. However, the 29-year-old has started to pick up his effectiveness, scoring in three straight and accumulating a plus-4 rating in that span. While it's too early to make the case for a resurgence -- the center had just 13:47 of ice time Tuesday, his lowest of the season -- the recent uptick in production is a positive sign for his progression with the Senators.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Picks up power-play assist in loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/12/16) Brassard registered a power-play assist, three shots on goal and two PIM during Sunday's 5-1 loss to Anaheim.

Brassard has shown some relatively uninspiring play with the Senators this season, but he's starting to hit a new low in December. The center is minus-4 over his past four games (minus-3 for the month) and has just a goal and an assist in six contests. He's seeing plenty of action -- 17:38 of ice time and 2:40 on the power play per game to be exact -- but he's simply not producing. Whether it's a chemistry issue or the Sens' offensive woes are too much to overcome, Brassard has proven to be a massive disappointment and figures to be untrustworthy until there's more consistency in his performances.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Scores second of season in loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/18/16) Brassard scored a power-play goal on six shots during Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Predators.

That's the aggressive mindset coach Guy Boucher was looking for. Brassard is strugglingly mightily in the month of November, tallying this single goal and earning a measly assist in nine contests. The center has reached 45-plus points in three straight seasons (all with the Rangers), so his inconsistent start is disappointing to say the least. However, Thursday's season high in shots is a positive sign towards a more hungry desire to produce.
