  • Senators' Derick Brassard: Dealing with shoulder ailment

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11:41 am ET) General manager Pierre Dorion announced that Brassard's previously undisclosed injury was to his shoulder, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.

Brassard sat out the third period of Game 5 against the Penguins, but otherwise didn't miss any time during the playoffs. It was a down year for the winger as he failed to reach the 40-point mark for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign, despite playing in 81 games and averaging 17:23 of ice time. The Quebec native will likely continue logging time on the power play next season even though he managed just seven points with the man advantage.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Good to go for Game 6

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/22/17) Brassard, who sat out the third period of Sunday's game to rest an undisclosed ailment, will play in Tuesday's Game 6 against the Penguins, Sportsnet reports.

It would take a lot for any player to sit out a game of this significance, so it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that he's already ruled in for the contest. He had little need to take his shifts in Sunday's blowout loss but will look to get back on track as the Senators attempt to stave off elimination in Game 6. He's tallied just three points in the team's last 11 playoff games but was pivotal in the team's first-round matchup with Boston, notching eight points in six games. Brassard possesses the ability to make a large impact in playoff pools and may need to for the Senators to advance.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Sat for rest Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/21/17) Brassard (undisclosed) did not finish Sunday's Game 5 loss to Pittsburgh due to rest and is expected to be ready to suit up for Tuesday's Game 6 in Ottawa, Brent Wallace of TSN reports.

While the hit on Brassard was certainly pretty brutal, it doesn't seem that it caused a severe enough injury for the 29-year-old to sit out Tuesday's elimination game. Brassard finished his afternoon with two shots on goal in 10:21 of ice time, including 1:03 on the power play.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Will not complete Game 5

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/21/17) Brassard won't return to Sunday's road playoff contest against the Penguins due to an undisclosed injury, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Brassard may have sustained his injury during the second period of Sunday's contest when he took a big open-ice check from Chris Kunitz, per Pete Blackburn of FOX Sports. It's quite possible that the veteran forward's injury is something to be concerned about, but considering the Senators were also up against a 6-0 deficit before Brassard was pulled from the game, it's entirely possible that the team just didn't want to risk a worse injury.

Senators' Derick Brassard: Breaks out with multi-point showing

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/18/17) Brassard notched a goal and an assist during Wednesday's Game 3 win over Pittsburgh.

The veteran center posted eight points through six games during Round 1 against Boston, but then he registered just a single goal over the next eight outings. Still, he's had a solid postseason, as Brassard's usually been tasked with matching up against the opposition's top players. Because of that task, however, it wouldn't be surprising if his offensive inconsistency were to continue.
