  • Red Wings' Frans Nielsen: Sets up two more goals

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/8/17) Nielsen secured two primary assists in Saturday's 6-3 road loss to the Sharks.

The Nielsen ratings are in, and the results show that the Danish pivot is still worth watching in fantasy, despite the Red Wings needing to dig themselves out of the cellar of the Atlantic Division. Nielsen remains a focal point on special teams, having collected a team-leading seven points on the power play to go along with a pair of shorthanded goals.

Red Wings' Frans Nielsen: Adds security goal

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/18/16) Nielsen sealed a 6-4 win for the Red Wings on Saturday with a second-chance tally in the third period.

The Dane is up to seven goals in 32 games. He's only had 64 shot attempts, and that's a declining pace compared to the 2.2 per game as an Islander last season. Nielsen will be hard-pressed to match his 52 points from the 2015-16 campaign and his minus-12 rating leaves a lot to be desired, but he's still averaging 0.57 points over 638 career contests.

Red Wings' Frans Nielsen: Grabs helper against former team

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/5/16) On Sunday, in an overtime defeat over an Islanders team for which he spent the past 10 seasons, Nielsen set up defenseman Mike Green for his ninth assist. "I've been looking at the schedule for a long time and looking forward to this game," Nielsen said in Sunday's report by NHL.com. "So I'm happy it's done with and now I can move on."

We can only imagine what it'd be like to suddenly swap sweaters after a decade's worth of time with a different club, but much like veteran David Backes, who moved from the Blues to the Bruins this offseason, Nielsen has been able to make a relatively seamless transition. The Dane has been searing hot of late, picking up three goals (21.4 shooting percentage) and four assists in the last six games.

Red Wings' Frans Nielsen: Finds twine in loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(12/3/16) Nielsen scored in Saturday's road loss to the Penguins.

Nielsen is hot with six points (three goals, three assists) over the past five games. With a whopping nine players on IR, the Red Wings are going to heavily rely on two-way talents like Nielsen, who has six power-play points but no man-advantage goals.

Red Wings' Frans Nielsen: Dynamic in Friday's win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/25/16) Nielsen was fantastic in a 5-4 overtime win over the Devils on Friday, notching a pair of goals -- including a shorthanded tally -- and an assist.

The Red Wings have two shorthanded goals this season, with Nielsen snagging both of them. His first score was made possible by Justin Abdelkader creating a turnover on the penalty kill that culminated in Nielsen picking up the rebound in open space. The Dane's transition from the Islanders has had its peaks and valleys, but he does have seven points on special teams.
