  • Avalanche's Cody McLeod: Ends two-month old scoring drought

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/1/16) McLeod recorded a goal and three hits in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Wild.

This one has to feel good for McLeod, as he's not tallied a single point since Jan. 8, a drought spanning 23 games. Don't expect a huge outburst of offense from the 31-year-old anytime soon, though, since this was just his eight goal of the season. What McLeod lacks in offense, he makes up in PIM and hits -- he registered 32 PIM and 79 hits during his scoring drought.

Avalanche's Cody McLeod: Typically aggressive in Monday's win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/24/15) McLeod found twine and picked up five PIM in Monday's 4-1 win over the Jets.

McLeod has scored in consecutive games, bringing his total on the season to five goals. We're talking about a guy that only has 62 goals in 570 games, so he might be playing over his head in that category this season. However, Mcleod's heavy totals spent in the penalty box is the staple of his game and fantasy owners can expect consistency from No. 55 in that area. His naughty behavior has led to 21 PIM in the past three games, making him an underrated fantasy play in league types that give out points for goals and PIM, which is how most leagues work.

Avalanche's Cody McLeod: Adds goal on man advantage Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/11/15) McLeod contributed a power-play goal in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Flyers.

McLeod will score once in a blue moon, but this was just his third goal on the man advantage since entering the NHL with the Avs in 2007-08. No. 55 is averaging 9:56 TOI this season, and that's a low number due to the fact that McLeod has a second home in the penalty box. In 564 career games, the bruiser has 1,207 PIMs and 38 of those minutes have been served in 2015-16. Most teams across the league have stopped employing an enforcer on the fourth line, but McLeod apparently didn't get that memo.

Avalanche's Cody McLeod: Bruiser in Colorado

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/9/15) McLeod has spent 38 minutes in the penalty box after 14 games this 2015-16 season.

Last year, McLeod logged the second most penalty minutes in the NHL while adding seven goals and five assists. Not much has changed so far in 14 games this season for the Avalanche's fourth-line bruiser, who currently ranks third in the league for penalty minutes with 38 and is on pace for 16 points.

Avalanche's Cody McLeod: Begins another season as Avalanche's enforcer

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/14/15) McLeod has played in both of the Avalanche's games this season, with an assist and seven penalty minutes to show for.

McLeod will likely play in every game that he's healthy for this season, and that's because of his leadership and his role in protecting young stars Nathan MacKinnon, Matt Duchene, and Gabriel Landeskog. Do not expect his current scoring rate of 0.5 points per game to continue, as over the course of his last five seasons he has averaged 0.16 points per game to go along with nearly 150 PIM per season.

  • April 12, 2015: Avs' McLeod Productive In Finale
McLeod closed out the regular season with a goal, four shots on goal and six hits in Saturday's win over Chicago.A good final game for McLeod, who finishes the year with seven goals and 12 points in 82 games. Most of his fantasy value came from his time in the penalty box, as his 191 PIM were second most in the NHL. He's never surpassed 20 points in his career and is a career bottom-six player, so don't expect anything to change anytime soon.
