Leighton loses close game to Caps: Michael Leighton stopped 30 shots for the Hurricanes during a 3-2 loss to the Capitals on Monday. Carolina had an early 1-0 lead, but Washington took little time to even the score, with Nicklas Backstrom receiving Alex Ovechkin's pass into the low slot and poking it past Leighton at 6:11. The Capitals went up 2-1 at even strength with 2:40 left in the first as Eric Fehr scored from the left circle with Backstrom assisting. Washington stretched its lead to 3-1 with about 5 minutes left in the second, when Backstrom scored from Fehr as Leighton had left the crease. Leighton has lost his last two starts and has allowed eight goals.

Despite the loss, Leighton held his own on Monday against the Capitals. Right now, he is a who can play worse? competition with Manny Legace until Cam Ward is ready for action. Ward might return from a leg laceration in Week 9 (Nov. 30-Dec. 6), so Leighton's time as a part-time starter could end shortly. Leighton is merely a desperation Fantasy start. The Hurricanes TG is a low-end option.
